IBM CLOUD MANAGER WITH OPENSTACK

IBM® Cloud Manager with OpenStack provides an open and comprehensive Infrastructure as a Service cloud solution. It is a self-service portal for simplified cloud management for the Cloud end-user. It enables the user to work with virtual appliances and workloads focusing on both the end user's perspective and the IT administrator’s perspective.

UNDERSTAND THE USERS

During the design process of the IBM Design Thinking, this project focused on two types of users: the developer (the end-user) and the IT administrator. We interviewed different types of users to understand how they currently collaborate, set up, build and maintain the cloud services and find out the pain points during their current workflows.

PERSONAS

Michael
Infrastructure Administrator

Michael is an infrastructure admin with 15 years of IT management experience. His primary motivation is to provide Maureen the hybrid infrastructure she needs while maintaining control over the compute, storage, and network resources.

Maureen
DevOps Pro

Maureen is a seasoned developer with 15 years of experience in traditional application delivery.
Her primary motivation is to build scalable and efficient cloud services.

BEFORE & AFTER

IBM Cloud Openstack Services including different software: Deployer, IBM Cloud Manager (Horizon), and Self-Service Portal. With the Deployer, the IT Administrator can set up a new cloud in a few hours. IBM Cloud Manager integrates Openstack Horizon and IBM value-added services.

SCENARIOS

The following are some examples showing how Michael and Maureen work together by using the new UI. Michael is the administrator for Cloud Manager with OpenStack. He has installed the software and is excited about being able to try out quotas and image template workflows. After setting up the quotas and policies, he asks Maureen to test them out.

WIREFRAMES

The following wireframe is an example of one feature of the cloud manager software - creating the stack. The developer can create a simple or nested stack all within the Horizon UI without the help of an IT administrator.

IBM CLOUD MANAGER (HORIZON UI)

With the new IBM value-add OpenStack Horizon UI, the IT Administrator is easy to manage request and expiration policy and maintain the compute, storage, and network resources within the same software. We designed dark and light UI versions to align with the IBM Bluemix visual language.

DEPLOYER

Deployer is software that enables the IT administrator to easily set up the IBM Cloud environment and manage the cloud hardware within a few steps: control the cloud, build the cloud, configure networking, deploy the cloud.

IBM CLOUD OPENSTACK SERVICES

The Cloud Services website integrates the IBM Cloud Manager within the website to enable the general audience who wants to know about the product and discover and try the IBM cloud services without purchasing at the beginning.
